Sports massage for Runners
Running , we were all born to run , even though some say i wasn't built to run.
Its in all of us to run and can surprise ourselves of exactly what this amazing body of ours can do .
Yeah its not easy first time when we decide to take our first steps just like a baby learning to walk , its the same thing , muscles grow , get stronger and we become better each time we try.
Ive been running for about 10 years and in that time have done some marathons , half and 10ks with a few crazy mud run obstacle courses.
It really doesn't take to long for your body and mind to accept the changes that are going on when you start running. Yes the terrible muscle fatigues set in and the ability to be able to walk the next day after a 5k steady jog, but all this lessens over time.
My job as a sports massage therapist is to get you to understand the benefits of having a regular massage when you take up running and this goes for any other sport be it cycling , swimming, tennis etc.
If you are serious about your sport even if this is just a project to aim to change something about yourself you are still an athlete. You wear the shorts , t shirt and trainers and are out there making a difference.
So think about it , you are out there running whether it be 10 minute mile, you are using muscles , joints to power you to move forward.
Don't you think its important to give back and thank your body for the distance you achieved and to take care of this amazing creation.
Sports massage is giving something back to the body after you have worked it , fatigued it and need to begin re-balancing it so you can lessen the chance of injury so your next run will be better with less shortened muscles and a more aligned body .
Sports massage can be as simple as flushing out the muscles after a run to help remove any unwanted toxins and lactic waste the body produces when we exercise .
A combination of sports massage and stretching techniques which are more advanced are used when maybe possible injury could be arising or to aid recovery from an old injury that keeps flaring up .
Looking after yourself is important in life but being in a sport makes you appreciate what your body can do but its so important to remember that its working hard for you and remember it also needs attention to be able to run further , faster and smoother .
